Notes on one year of marriage

Notes on one year of marriage

A year ago today (!), we slipped away to the courthouse to make it official. Four years to the day that we met (via OKCupid! in a dive bar!), David and I got married in front of our best friends and closest family. It was simple and sweet and everything that I could have wanted (namely: not your big traditional crazy wedding). C'est Christine New York City Elopement by Mat Rick

A lot has happened in the last year. We honeymooned on a couple of tropical islands, said goodbye to the life we created in Brooklyn, moved across the country to San Diego. We’ve had some fights, and we’ve laughed a lot. It hasn’t always been easy–I mean, we both work from home!–but if the first year of marriage is the hardest, then we’ve got a lot of amazing years ahead of us. David’s been the best Instagram husband and real-life husband that I could have ever dreamed of (p.s. I know you’re reading this, and I love you for liking all of my Instagram photos even when you haven’t looked at them).

And also: a quick note of thanks for all of the incredible love and support we’ve gotten over the past year from our friends, family and the internet. A reader recognized me and David on the subway last spring, and congratulated us–it was so bizarre, and so weirdly wonderful to have people out there in the world wishing us well. It is still so wild to me that there are readers out there who have been around since I just a babe bartending in France and Australia and backpacking through Southeast Asia and figuring out life in New York City.

We’re celebrating our first anniversary today (and through this weekend) in Mexico City, a city we’ve wanted to visit for a long time. We’re splurging on dinner at Pujol, eating all of the street tacos and drinking all of the mezcal, adventuring to ancient pyramids and colorful canals and relaxing in our Airbnb’s living room hammock. I’ll be back next week with some updates and copious photos!
