Postcard from Antibes

December 19, 2010 in Postcards

Antibes is one of my favorite neighboring towns to Nice: a glorious sandy beach, a foie gras sandwich shop, a row of amazing yachts to wander. Friends and I loved hopping on the train to spend a sunny afternoon strolling through town and then setting up for a suntanning session. The quiet cove doesn’t have any waves–or rocks!–so it’s a relaxing change from Nice.

Antibes classic yacht show
We stumbled across a classic yacht show on a visit in June.

A relaxing walk along the sea.

Outdoor art installation.

The yachts are ridiculous! Pools, motorboats, helicopters…this is certainly the port of the rich and famous.

  • Lovely. 🙂 My best friend I’ve known since high school has lived in Antibes for 14 years. I finally got to visit there in in the summertime this past August, when there was no snow (that happened in Feb 2010), and it looked a lot like your photos here. The Picasso Museum in the old part of town is really cool. Although me, the Parisian, really trips out on the Carrefour near her place — it’s GINORMOUS. I love to check it out! Thanks for featuring this really nice part of France.

  • Oh, that water looks amazing!

I could use some of that bright sunshine right about now! Gorgeous….

As could I! It’s pouring rain in California–I’m yearning for a bit of that summer, French Riviera sunshine.

    It was perfect this summer!

I unfortunately never made it to the Picasso museum in Antibes (although I have been to the ones in Paris and Barcelona)–but I’ve heard great things! Antibes was my favorite find in the South of France–close to Nice, but such a different vibe! Great for a day trip.

  • I spent a week in Antibes last year and thought it was a great place to use as a base for visiting nearby cities Cannes and Monte Carlo. I don’t remember the sand on that beach being quite that white. Looks inviting.

I love Antibes !!!! Was the ‘artist in residence’ there in 2008 and 2009 … would love to live there – your photos bring back warm memories …. thanks !

  • Tres chic!!!!!

I think Nice is a better base–much more things to do!–but Antibes is a great location as well. I just love the sandy beach!

This is a lovely post, I went to Antibes for the first time this year as was blown away with its beauty! The old part the scenery, the houses, the beaches, and of course the most amazing yachts. Thank you for reminding me of this xx
