Postcard from Amsterdam

Postcard from Amsterdam

Amsterdam is one of those perfectly picturesque cities: tree-lined canals, bicycle-lined cobblestone alleyways, old-style architecture. The skies may have been gray, but the cozy coffee shops provided the perfect escape.

The best way to see the city is like the locals: by bicycle. It’s extremely compact and easy to get around. While there are plenty of museums and sites to keep you busy, don’t miss the street art, the characters, the little touches that make Amsterdam so charming.

What’s your favorite part of Amsterdam?

  • It’s on my list! By the way…Lindsey (Lost In Cheeseland) spoke very sweetly of you-think we were in Paris around the same time…? 😉

  • I saw a cute dog at your pic, can you travel with your pet?

  • Candicewalsh

Damn it, I totally missed that museum!

  • Kbrennan6

    i think i belong here.

  • I love Amsterdam! I think the architecture and the canals are so beautiful, but I’ve never made it to the science museum! I didn’t even know it existed. I’m definitely putting it on my to-do list.

  • The Jordaan is my favorite slice of the city. And outside of Amsterdam, I’m smitten with Haarlem.

  • My fave is the apple pancakes! 😉 GREAT pics!!!

Apparently dogs can travel in baskets on scooters, not a problem in Amsterdam!

Oh, that’s awesome! Lindsey is great, isn’t she? We’ve had lots of fun discussions about life in France 🙂

More bikes in one place than I’ve ever seen. You would love it.

We went to it at the end of Museum Night–sooo much fun! Picture tons of drunk twenty-somethings playing with science at midnight in the museum. Hard to beat.

Unfortunately, Amsterdam was the only city I got to see in the Netherlands! Would certainly love to go back.

We ended at the NEMO on Museum Night since we could see it from our houseboat–easy walk home at 2 a.m.–but it was so much fun! I would totally go back again during the day.

Yummm I didn’t try apple pancakes, but I did have pancakes with ham and cheese. Delicious!

  • That car is hilarious–it looks like someone cut it right in half.

  • I’m Italian and I live in Amsterdam. I travel a lot and I do think that’s the only place I ever lived in that I can consider “home”.
Nothing to do with all the clichés you hear about this huge old village (and the Nederland in general). Open, warm, laid back, civilized people, always something to do each day of the week both in the long light fresh summer evenings and the endless darkest freezing winter days 🙂 Come back soon!

Isn’t it ridiculous?! The Smart Car must have originated here!

I would love to come back–I’d love to see more of Amsterdam and the surrounding countryside!

My favorite part of Amsterdam were the bike rides, spacious green parks and great food! If you ever return, you HAVE to go to Lof for dinner!

  • Anonymous

You always find the best food places! I adored the bike rides as well–although I didn’t spot as many spacious green parks. Must not have been looking in the right place! Also, did you try Indonesian while you were there? Loved it!
