One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!Clinton Hill, Brooklyn Although this week certainly didn’t turn out as I hoped, I’m trying to remain reasonable and optimistic. To some extent, this is the nature of a deeply divided two-party system–although, on the other side, Trump is not an experienced and level-headed and knowledgeable candidate like Romney or McCain. It’s disheartening, BUT I’m hoping that it lights a fire under us: personally, I want to get more involved with organizations like EMILY’s List and Planned Parenthood (in more ways than just a monthly check).

Reads

I’m still reading When Women Win, and it’s feeling more important than ever to elect more women to office at all levels. It’s inspiring from a woman entrepreneur position as well–it honestly just makes me want to go out and start making a difference! New York City marathon in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn

New York City

There’s something so magical about the New York City marathon! Last year, it was such an imposing presence in my life since my boyfriend was running it: our lifestyle was dominated for the months leading up to it (healthy dinners, no drinking, coordinating schedules to accommodate his long runs), and then I spent the day of racing all over the place by bike to cheer him on in three different places. This year, we just popped up the street with Gert to cheer on a few friends–but it was such an inspiring environment! It was so amazing to see complete strangers cheering each other on, and it was so cool to see so many runners pour their heart and soul into this run. It’s one of the best days to be a New Yorker! The Citizenry pillow and Gertie the Pug

Pug Life

Fun new things Gertie is capable of: jumping up onto the bed by herself! This wasn’t even posed: we were watching Fargo in the other room (my current TV binge), and when I didn’t see her, I walked in to spot her soaking up the afternoon sun right in the middle of the bed. (Also: isn’t she getting so big and grumpy!)Flowers at Maman Greenpoint

Words

“I believe we are stronger together and we will go forward together. And you should never, ever regret fighting for that. You know, scripture tells us, let us not grow weary of doing good, for in good season we shall reap. My friends, let us have faith in each other, let us not grow weary and lose heart, for there are more seasons to come and there is more work to do.” -Hillary Clinton

This weekend, we’re going to the Omni at Amelia Island! I’m looking forward to taking part in the Cocktails & Canvases event, riding bikes around the plantation and enjoying some sunshine on the beach.
