One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! The view from Liberty House in Jersey City   This has been one of those weeks where Tuesday felt like Friday, and every day has just felt longer than the last. I think part of it is the seasons changing: I’m already feeling more sluggish because the sun is rising later and it’s getting darker earlier, and more depressed because it’s been chilly and blustery. The weather affects me SO deeply, and I have such a hard time in the winter here. To be honest, I’m already dreading it–especially now that we have a dog who needs to be walked outside, no matter what! Alas, I’m trying to focus my attention on some upcoming fun fall getaways, the joy of finding sweaters I forgot I had and swapping out my cold brew for delicious hot lattes.

Looks

I attended an absolutely gorgeous formal wedding in Jersey City last weekend–can you even believe those skyline views?! We had such a fun time celebrating an absolutely amazing couple, and it was the perfect opportunity to try out Rent the Runway for the first time! Although I ended up loving the super-swanky look, it was a bit of a trial to actually get the dress in hand. If you’re in Manhattan, I would definitely recommend picking it up in their Chelsea store (or getting it delivered if you live in an outer borough): when they say the delivery timeframe is from 9am to 9pm and they can’t give you any more details, they really can’t–and it might end up being later than 9pm. Lesson learned! The Mothers and Latin Beet Kitchen

Reads

It’s supposed to rainy and chilly here this weekend, so I’m stoked to have a new book to curl up with. I don’t really have any idea what The Mothers is about yet, but it’s been getting rave reviews and a colorful cover always gets extra points with me.

Eats

I tried out Latin Beet Kitchen for the first time, and it was SO delicious! The restaurant has Latin-inspired colorful, customizable bowls (that are all gluten-free). I tried the Latin Beet bowl with zucchini noodles, brussel sprouts, steak and that fun pink beet sauce–if it was just a little closer to my office, this would definitely be my go-to lunch spot.

Tiny's and the Bar Upstairs in Tribeca, New York City

Drinks

Isn’t Tiny’s & the Bar Upstairs just the cutest facade in the city? I can’t get over it! Even better news: the interior is just as adorable and super cozy, and they have kick-ass cocktails to boot. I met up with a girlfriend for cocktails, and we both tried the Pish Posh, complete with vodka, spiced pear and champagne. Such a perfect way to welcome in fall!

Words

“Cherish your solitude. Take trains by yourself to places you have never been. Sleep out alone under the stars. Learn how to drive a stick shift. Go so far away that you stop being afraid of not coming back. Say no when you don’t want to do something. Say yes if your instincts are strong, even if everyone around you disagrees. Decide whether you want to be liked or admired. Decide if fitting in is more important than finding out what you’re doing here. Believe in kissing.” -Eve Ensler

This weekend, we’re keeping it very low-key in Brooklyn: drinks with friends, a couple of workout classes scheduled, a Blue Apron delivery. Nothing fancy at all, but it should be nice and relaxing!
