Postcard from Dalat Gardens

Postcard from Dalat Gardens

Dalat is known as the honeymoon capital of Vietnam, with couples enjoying the year-round temperate climate. The mild temperatures and clear blue skies also mean that flowers bloom year-round, making the sprawling grounds of Dalat Gardens a popular destination for honeymooners.Golden birdcage and purple flowers in Dalat Gardens in Dalat, Vietnam

But this is no tastefully understated Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens: this is Vietnam, proud home of kitsch. Hedges are shaped into dragons and kittens; wine bottles are stacked to create a faux Christmas tree. Teapot-shaped hedges are complemented by bucket-wielding brooms: apparently Fantasia made it to Vietnam? Horse-drawn buggies await to trot you and your beloved around the manmade lake.

I usually wander gardens taking photo after photo of the flowers, but I spent most of my time in the Dalat Gardens looking for the next garish adornment–and believe me, there were more than enough to find.
