One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!

Vedettes de Paris river cruise

The most exciting news of my week: I booked my 30th birthday trip! I’d been doing a ton of flight searching and plan shuffling over the last few weeks, so I was elated to finally click buy on the plane tickets. My general philosophy is to book the ticket first, and the rest will fall into place–and the thrill of knowing I’m going somewhere new is always the best. I’ll be celebrating my actual birthday in Slovenia (!!!), but I’m most looking forward to the time to London and Paris that will bookend my trip. I’ll begoing to high tea and swooning over wisteria blooms in London on a much-overdue trip to visit some very good friends, and I’ll be doing a bit of solo exploring back in Paris, aka my favorite city of all time. I think it will be a good balance of the adventure of going somewhere new, the joy of seeing old friends and the loveliness of going back to a city I know well and love a lot–the perfect way to start a new decade!

Christine Amorose Merrill in RTR Unlimited Betty Lou pug as flower pug

Looks

Our neighbors (and fellow obsessed pug owners!) got married this weekend, and it was so fun to celebrate with a bunch of new friends!  I was also very excited to finally have an opportunity to wear this gorgeous Marchesa Notte dress that I’ve had on my mind for a verrrrry long time: the dress is so beautifully intricate and bold in person. Also: still dying over the cuteness of Betty Lou as the flower pug!

Reading Broken Harbor by Tana French

Reads

Continuing my obsession with the Dublin Murder Squad books: I just started Broken Harbor, and I can’t put it down. I’ve basically made a deal with myself that I will read a Tana French book every other book I read until I’m done with the series, and it’s been working out very nicely! If you’re looking for a solidly intriguing vacation read and you like crime, I highly suggest starting with book #1 in the series and continuing on.

Pink skies at Sunset Cliffs, San Diego

Words

“I want death to find me planting my cabbages, not concerned about it or—still less—my unfinished garden.” -Nina Riggs, The Bright Hour (so sad, but so worth reading)

This weekend, I’m hiking Three Sisters Falls with a couple of friends (and lots of new friends–it’s a Girls Who Hike event!) and taking Gert to her first official therapy dog volunteer session at the Ronald McDonald House
