One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! Central Park in New York City snowstorm

This week has been one of extremes, in so many senses of the word. We went from a crazy snowstorm with below freezing temperatures all the way to 60-and-sunny working-on-the-roof-with0ut-a-jacket weather in the span of five days. I’ve been in state of disbelief watching the president-elect childishly refuse to answer questions from reporters and seeing the Senate vote against contraceptive coverage and veterans benefits. I’ve spent a lot of time scrolling through Twitter and kind of not believing that this is actual real life, and not some reality TV show. Alas! This is the world as we know it now. I’m trying to figure out more ways to get involved beyond just donating to Planned Parenthood and EMILY’s List–any ideas?

Song of Solomon at Court Street Grocers

Reads

I’m so deep into Song of Solomon, and am absolutely loving it. I didn’t love Toni Morrison when I first read Beloved at 15, but I mean, I also refused to eat any green vegetables at that time in my life–so things change! It’s also incredible (in a very disheartening way) that so many of the racial issues brought up in the book–which is set in the 1950’s–are still so prevalent today. Side note: sandwich pictured is from Court Street Grocers, my new favorite lunch spot.

Love Thy Beast dog tote for New York City

Looks

Two years later, I can confirm that this oversized sweater is still one of the go-to items in my closet. It is simultaneously fancy and flattering AND so comfortable, which means I wear it on the weekends and for client meetings. I love it!

Podcasts

My current favorite podcast for entrepreneurial inspiration: How I Built This. It’s an NPR interview series with people who basically created industries and indispensable products (think: founders of Instagram, Zumba, Clif Bar). Since David is really into marketing and product development, it’s been a fun one to put on in the background while we putter around the house. And for #ladyboss inspo, I loved the episodes featuring the founders of Spanx and Dry Bar!

Russ and Daughters Cafe in NYC

Eats

I had a breakfast date with my friend Kate at Russ & Daughters, where we made our lox-loving SO’s not-so-proud by not ordering any of the smoked fish that this NYC institution is known for. But I am a lover of latkes and babka, and I can attest that those offerings were absolutely delicious!Central Park in New York City snowstorm

Words

“I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. He taught me that if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be.” -Roald Dahl

This weekend, we’re staying in New York City! I’m excited for a low-key long weekend of self-care that involves a Pilates class, a massage, a facial and coffee catch-ups with friends.
