A new job, and a few of my favorite podcasts

After two glorious weeks of funemployment, today is my first day of work at Gimlet Media! My official title is East Coast Account Executive, which basically means I’m selling podcast ads and branded podcasts in NYC and beyond. I’m stoked to be continuing my career in sales, especially in such a cool (and, IMO, fairly untapped) industry. Bonuses: Brooklyn HQ (aka a commute that just got slashed in half), dog-friendly offices, and a lot of smart and kind people!

And in honor of that news, here are a few of my favorite podcasts. I’ve found that I especially like listening to podcasts on the walk to and from the subway, when I’m driving, and basically anytime where I can devote a bit of headspace (aka not when I’m working and not when I’m biking and not when I’m grocery shopping). They’re a great way to get some conversation fodder before going to work! Full disclosure: a bunch of these are Gimlet podcasts, but I was obsessed with them before I started working there.

Serial

The podcast that made me start listening to podcasts. If you haven’t listened to the first season of Serial, GO NOW AND START.

StartUp

If you’re interested in where I’m working: StartUp is a podcast by the founders of Gimlet about the founding of Gimlet (before it was even Gimlet). It’s a really cool behind-the-scenes look at entrepreneurship and I recommend to all my friends who started or are considering starting a company. I especially like the third season, which focuses on a variety of companies on the brink of failure.

A quirky show about the internet. My favorite episodes: Hello?, Lost in a Cab, Today’s the Day, On the Inside, In the Desert.

Creating Your Own Path

Another great entrepreneurial podcast: Creating Your Own Path is a weekly interview series focusing on “inspiring individuals and change-makers from creative industries.” I actually spoke about my love of routines on it once!

Crimetown

Confession: I’m obsessed with real crime TV shows. As soon as the premise of Crimetown was described to me (it premiered yesterday!), I was already hooked: it’s all about the mob-ruled city of Providence, focusing on a mayor who came in to stop corruption and ended up incredibly corrupt.

The Future of Sex

My friend Bryony just started The Future of Sex, and it’s a a frank discussion around sex and technology with a ton of interesting people.

Do you listen to any podcasts? Are there any I should add to my playlist?
