One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! Will you marry me chalk art in BrooklynWhat a wonderful whirlwind of a week! After getting engaged on Saturday afternoon and celebrating with our friends on Saturday night, we’ve been overwhelmed with so many well wishes from family, friends, coworkers, and even blog readers. And then in a perfectly timed trip to Sacramento, I got to fly home to see my parents for the first time in a year! Overall, it’s just a really exciting time (I like having something sparkly on my hand a lot more than expected!) and we are looking forward to everything ahead. (p.s. spotted the above chalk art taking a walk around DUMBO with a friend on Saturday morning–isn’t that coincidental!)

After our rowboat date at Central Park, we decided we should try out the experience in Prospect Park too! As with everything Central versus Prospect Parks: Central is full of tourists and little bit shinier and prettier, whereas Prospect is solely locals without many frills (and plenty of reggae music playing). The biggest difference: we went at 2pm versus dusk, and it was HOT. There is not much shade on the lake in Prospect Park! That said, it was really fun and I’m glad that we’ve checked boating on both major city lakes off the list.

Gym Vibes

I tried out The Class with Taryn Toomey last week, which was an EXPERIENCE. I had no real idea what to expect: it’s described on the website as a “75-minute cathartic mind-body experience” but what does that really mean! I was a little intimidated when I walked into the class–there are definitely a lot of model bodies and Taryn-converts–but as soon as the class began, I was hooked. There aren’t any props, but you feel like you’re getting such a kick-ass workout. It’s a good reminder that things like jumping jacks and lunges can really get the job done! The general vibe is sort of Soul Cycle–aka a lot of inspirational phrases being shouted out and a solid playlist–but there’s also an emphasis on making noise and letting it all go (which sounds ridiculous when you type it but can actually be so cathartic). I definitely want to go again!New York City skyline

“The willingness to accept responsibility for one’s own life is the source from which self-respect springs.” -Joan Didion

I’m in Sacramento this weekend! I’m excited to attend a wine tasting fundraiser at my high school (it’s essentially an alumni reunion for all years, plus teachers and parents and plus ones), as well as eat tacos and hang out by my parents’ pool.
