Date night: rowing in Central Park!

I actually love staying in the city over long weekends: no traffic or higher prices to deal with, and the city is delightfully quiet and laid-back. Whenever we have a few extra “weekend” days to explore the city, I always like to check something off my New York City bucket list. This time: rowing boats in Central Park! It’s one of those ridiculously touristy things that was actually really fun to do once. Christine Amorose Rowing in Central ParkWe went last Friday evening, when the weather was absolutely perfect for a night out on the water: 75 degrees, sunny, a light breeze. It costs $15 for an hour, which was plenty of time to row around the whole lake–granted, my boyfriend is pretty good with a pair of oars, so he was able to navigate us quite deftly. I loved going under Bow Bridge and seeing the entire New York City skyline from the lake. After rowing on the lake, we popped into The Boathouse for a drink (expensive, but fun to grab at least one!) and then walked over to Haru on the Upper West Side for sushi. I couldn’t have asked for a lovelier end-of-summer evening!

A few more logistics: it’s cash only, and you need to have an extra $20 to leave as a deposit. It’s open April through October (weather permitting) from 10am until dusk. You can have up to four people in a boat and you have access to the whole lake. Rowing in Central ParkRowing in Central Park Rowing in Central Park Rowing in Central Park Rowing in Central Park Rowing in Central ParkDrinks at The Boathouse Central Park
