A weekend in the Berkshires (with Gertie!)
Spending a July weekend in the Berkshires has become one of my favorite summer traditions. My boyfriend’s family goes up every year, and it’s such a nice, relaxing weekend away from the city. The weather wasn’t great–overcast and rainy for most of the weekend–but we still squeezed in a canoe ride, a BBQ and a swim in the lake. On one particularly rainy afternoon, David and I went on an excursion for ice cream and discovered a book barn (which I insisted on stopping into!). This year was especially fun since we brought Gertie! She loved having a whole backyard to explore off-leash, and it was so fun to watch her swim for the first time. Traveling with a puppy was a bit of a new challenge, but she handled it all like a champ: I think it was tougher for us just because there was so much more to remember, pack and carry! We had a wonderful weekend, though, and I think we’re all a little sad to be back in Brooklyn.
