One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!Mimi PaistIn honor of Mother’s Day this weekend (and because I’m not currently en route to California), a few words for the women who raised me! When I was making a beeline to the members-only plant sale at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, I realized how proud Mimi would have been of my adoration of flowers and my little balcony garden: she took incredible pride in her garden (fruit trees, roses, tomatoes) and loved the process as much as the results. And I feel like everything that I’ve achieved professionally (in my day job and on this blog) and personally (especially my solo travels) is because my mom always encouraged me to be confident and independent, no matter what the situation was. In the things that are truly lucky: I wouldn’t be where I am today without their support. I hope that everyone has a very lovely Mother’s Day weekend, and sending lots of love out to friends who lost their mothers too soon.

Speedy Romeo delivery on the balcony in BrooklynEats

We live super close to Speedy Romeo, a pretty hip pizza place in Clinton Hill. It’s a cool atmosphere with great cocktails, but I think it’s going to become one of our go-to takeout places over the summer: how good is a margherita pizza and a glass of white wine on the balcony?

Eligible by Curtis SittenfeldReads

I started Eligible on Monday morning and finished it on Wednesday night: I couldn’t put it down! I’m a big Jane Austen fan, and I loved how Curtis Sittenfeld retold Pride and Prejudice in such a modern and captivating way–while still staying so true to the original story. That said, it makes me want to reread the Pride and Prejudice, or at least the Cliff Notes!

Cocktails on the Grand Banks in New York City

Drinks

Despite the miserable 50-degree weather most of the week, we had a brief respite from the gray and the rain on Monday evening: just in time for the Grand Banks opening party with CN Traveler! Grand Banks is such a gem of a place in Manhattan: a schooner docked on the Hudson River with views of Lower Manhattan and very excellent cocktails.Tulips in Brooklyn Botanic GardenWords

“I am always busy, which is perhaps the chief reason why I am always well.” -Elizabeth Cady Stanton

This weekend, I’m in Portland, MAINE with Jillian! After our Bucks County weekend last year, we decided to make it an annual trip–and even though the weather isn’t quite cooperating, we’re looking forward to lighthouses, lobsters and plenty of sea breezes.
