One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!

Not Art in Chelsea, New York City  I started a class at NYU this week: nothing too fancy, just a four-class session on sales and entrepreneurship in the School of Professional Studies. It’s the first time I’ve gone back to school since graduating from Chico State seven years ago, which feels like a lifetime ago. I was a little nervous leading up to it: I wasn’t sure whether I needed to bring a laptop or just a notebook (what are the kids doing these days?!), or whether to dress more corporate than collegiate. But it all went well! The class was super interesting and I feel like it will be very helpful in both my professional Vimeo life and my personal blogging life. I’ve never been very interested in going back to school for my MBA–mostly because I refuse to take out loans and I prefer to spend my extra cash on travel–but I wouldn’t mind taking a few interesting classes here and there.

Blooms

Spring has sprung–if not in the weather, at least in the flower boxes on the street. I’ve splurged on Trader Joe’s daffodils on my nightstand, and I’m doing some garden planning this weekend: I’m hoping to plant tomatoes, rosemary, basil and plenty of geraniums on my balcony. Any other tips for hardy herbs and flowers?Cookshop in Chelsea, New York City

Eats

Cookshop is one of the go-to spots around my office for lunch, but it’s somehow taken me a year and a half to try it! I finally went earlier this week, and I can see why it’s a favorite: the food is healthy but filling, and the space is cozy but not crowded (and has incredible light!). I tried the breakfast bowl with kale, falafel, feta and a fried egg: absolutely delicious! If you’re near the High Line, this is a great place to stop for a meal.Sunday's On the Phone to Monday Sunday's On the Phone to Monday

Reads

I honestly love starting a book when I have no idea what it’s going to be about: it’s nice to be pleasantly surprised by the plot points and get to know the characters without any prejudice. I started Sunday’s on the Phone to Monday earlier this week, and it’s been a delicious little pleasure on the train every morning and before bed every night. It’s the story of an eccentric yet tight-knit family in 90’s-era New York, and I still have no idea how it’s going to end.Nike Free sneakers at Chelsea Piers Sports Center in New York City

“The secret to getting ahead is getting started.” -Mark Twain

After several weekends away, I’m thrilled to be spending the weekend at home in Brooklyn! We’re dog-sitting, catching up with friends, drinking coffee while reading The New York Times and spring cleaning (!): it should be simply glorious.
