One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! Birthday brunch in ManhattanThis crew! We regularly joke that Chico State runs the world at a middle management level–Harvard of the West, duh–but seriously, I’m constantly impressed by how a bunch of state school grads (who did not skimp on the partying) have managed to so completely thrive in a city as big and bad and as far away from our tiny little country town as New York City. We got together to celebrate a birthday with brunch this weekend, and it was so fun to reminisce on the trouble we caused in ADPi and what we’re all up to now. And the most fun part: right after we took this photo, we completely coincidentally ran into four of our guy friends who were also in the Greek system at Chico State! So grateful to have this continued sense of community: it makes a big city seem that much smaller.

Etsy pillows and puppy in BrooklynFixed Life: Details

We took care of our friends’ adorable dog Luke last weekend, and basically spoiled him silly. He spent most of his time at our apartment on the couch and created his own little nook of pillows. We actually just upgraded to these super cool Turkish pillowcases from Etsy: they weren’t too expensive and I feel like they totally changed the feel of our space. So much more vibrant!

Colorful building in East Village, new York City

New York City

I know that I say this all the time, but one of the greatest parts of living in New York City is that there is constantly something new to discover (although even as I say that, I think: that is actually true for all cities everywhere!). I stumbled across this colorful building on the border of Alphabet City and East Village last weekend, and was so surprised: doesn’t it look like it belongs in the Caribbean?

Eats

Buvette continues to be my favorite little nook for early morning breakfast dates: that yogurt-granola-berry-honey-beepollen mix is SO SO SO good. And when it comes with a perfect Americano, chats with a friend and wanders through the empty West Village streets, it really can’t be beat. The Woman I Wanted To Be by Diane Von FurstenbergReads

I know that I quoted DVF last week, but this week I have been completely enthralled in her memoir The Woman I Wanted To Be. It’s so conversational and easy to read, and her life is just so fascinating! She’s super open and honest about her upbringing, career and love life, and she has so many good takeaways that can be applied to women everywhere.Church in New York City

Words

“Writing isn’t about making money, getting famous, getting dates, getting laid, or making friends. In the end, it’s about enriching the lives of those who will read your work, and enriching your own life, as well. It’s about getting up, getting well, and getting over. Getting happy, okay? Writing is magic, as much the water of life as any other creative art. The water is free. So drink.” -Stephen King, On Writing

In case you haven’t already realized via all social media channels: I’m in Mexico (for the very first time)! We’re escaping the cold and spending the long weekend in Cancun with my boyfriend’s family: cue tacos, tequila and all the beach time.
