One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend! Sunset over New York City skylineLast full week of 2015–and my last little round-up of the year! I traveled a lot in 2015, and I read a bunch of books, and I drank many, many cups of coffee. It was a fantastic year, but I’m looking forward to 2016: especially since I’ll get to empty out my good things jar AND go into my second line in my Q&A a Day book. Hooray!

Looks + Streets

Tis the holiday season! I’ve been wanting a leather skirt for ages now, and I’m very excited about how versatile this one is: although it’s perfect for parties (with sequins!), it will be great with a basic tee or a slouchy sweater for work or weekends.

Christine Amorose at Chelsea Piers Sports Center

Namaste Hey

I woke up super early on Monday morning to kick off the last work week of 2015 with yoga on the “beach” aka the sand volleyball court at Chelsea Piers Sport Center. It was actually such a fun way to start the day–and it was a killer workout. I always forget how good unstable sand is for core strength and balance. Special shoutout to my friend Lindley for waking up before sunrise to meet me!

Friends apartment building in New York City

New York City

Long before I moved to the East Coast, I watched every episode of Friends (multiple times): I fell in love with the show in high school long before I ever thought I’d live here or before I even really wanted to live here, and it’s still one of my favorite shows to watch (and rewatch, and rewatch). I love when I spot the “Friends building” when I’m strolling around West Village: it’s like a little slice of those New York City dreams showing up in real life.

Dough Doughnuts in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn

Eats

One of the greatest perks of living in Bed-Stuy: we’re right down the street from Dough Doughnuts! The hibiscus doughnut has been my favorite New York City pastry ever since I discovered it at Smorgasburg when I moved to Brooklyn in 2012. Now we go pick up a couple of doughnuts and come home to enjoy them: my boyfriend recently bought an Aeropress, so coffee at home is just as delicious as any cafe in the neighborhood.

Christmas trees in New York City

Words

“Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time.” -Laura Ingalls Wilder

We’re spending Christmas in Washington DC with my boyfriend’s family, and then flying to Costa Rica with my boyfriend. This is my biggest attempt at a “true” vacation in a while: no laptop, no comped hotels or activities, nothing to do except read a book and get a tan and drink all of the rum in coconuts. I won’t be back on the blog until 2016: thanks to everyone for sticking around for another year, and wishing you all the best in the new year!
