One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!Lions Dive Resort in CuracaoThis week was quite a whirlwind: I spent Monday beach-hopping around Curacao, flew back to New York on Tuesday afternoon, worked in the New York City office on Wednesday and Thursday, drove down to Delaware on Thursday night, and now I’m in Dewey Beach for a wedding! I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday: Curacao was absolutely fantastic, and I’m so lucky to have such an incredible family and friends who make me feel loved and appreciated, even from afar (on Facebook, in snail mail, in care packages, in first-thing-in-the-morning text messages). Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes–excited for what’s to come!

Levain Bakery cookie deliverySweet Tooth

My sweet friend Kate surprised me with Levain Bakery cookie DELIVERY for my birthday! I introduced her to Levain back on our Upper West Side day of adventure last fall, and I had absolutely no idea what the package delivery at work on Wednesday could be. Such a sweet gesture–literally and figuratively. There is nothing better than a Levain chocolate chip walnut!

Sunset beers at Boat Basin in New York City

Drinks

One of my favorite places for a summer drink is the Boat Basin on the Upper West Side. It’s right next to the Hudson River marina, and between the boats gently rocking in the wind and the cyclists and runners on the river greenway, it feels more like you’re on a beach in Southern California than in the heart of Manhattan. The prices are affordable and it’s super casual: perfect for a beer at sunset!

Kindle in Curacao

Reads

One of my favorite tricks before embarking on a long trip: throwing myself into a very long book. Better yet: a series of books! I started My Brilliant Friend (one of the books on my best beach reads) on the plane to Curacao, and couldn’t put it down. I tore through it in just two days, and immediately downloaded the second book in the series—The Story of a New Name—while I was on the beach. Thank goodness for Amazon Kindle 3G! I’m hoping to find a few spare moments this weekend to finish the second book, and move onto the third.

Looks

When I was in high school, my mom wouldn’t let me wear black bikinis for whatever reason—inappropriate, too grown-up, too sexy. For some reason, her disapproval of black bikinis has stuck—I always opt for bright colors and crazy prints. This Mara Hoffman suit is the first one-piece I’ve bought in years, but it’s such a nice switch-up from my bandeau go-to and it’s so much fun!

Beaches in Curacao

Words

“All of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea – whether it is to sail or to watch it – we are going back from whence we came.” -John F. Kennedy

This weekend, I’m a (first-time) bridesmaid in a wedding at Dewey Beach! Kate and I became friends playing lacrosse at Chico State—she was my “returner” when I was rookie, similar to a big sis in a sorority—and her husband-to-be also played lacrosse at Chico–and we live just a few blocks from each other in Brooklyn now. It’s going to be a fantastic reunion of a bunch of my college lacrosse friends—I can’t wait!
