One of the reasons why I blog is simply to have the space to write: getting things “on paper” helps me to process my feelings and organize my thoughts. I also love having a record of my life over the past few years: a place that holds all of my stories, my photos, the ups and downs of travel. But sometimes, I also just want to remember and share the little things that brought me day-to-day joy. Every Friday, I’ll give you a peek into the book I currently can’t put down, a great restaurant discovery, a fun new product or an inspiring quote: a few things that I think you might enjoy before we all take off into the glory that is the weekend!

House in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

It’s honestly been such a laid-back start to holiday season: I feel all sorts of healthy and well-rested after having such a low-key Thanksgiving in Manhattan and spending the weekend in Brooklyn. I had essentially a five-day weekend with no massive plans, which meant that I woke up early(-ish) without an alarm, read the newspaper in coffee shops, (finally) went to the Brooklyn Museum, wandered around streets looking for pretty facades and curled up on my couch watching Netflix. I intentionally didn’t make any weekend travel plans in December to leave space for impromptu holiday drinks and Christmas parties, and I’m so glad. Even though fun things are popping up–engagement celebrations and cookie decorating–it’s still nice to have some unplanned mornings and evenings to just relax and recharge.

Take Me Back

A year ago today, I was at Art Basel Miami Beach. It was a work trip, but I woke up early every morning to walk down to the water to eat an acai bowl and drink my coffee in the sunshine and would walk around the Wynwood Walls looking for the coolest street art on my breaks. I have such fun random memories and inside jokes of that trip with my then-coworker, now friend–so my Timehop this week has made me laugh every day! And oh em gee, I am totally craving another winter escape to somewhere with palm trees.

I heart New York street art in ChelseaStreets

Sometimes, it’s just nice to get a little reminder that we all really do love New York City. I spotted this mural after an eye doctor appointment and it put me in such a good mood as I ran errands for the rest of the day!

Ricotta toast and coffee at Two Hands, New YorkThe Desire Map by Danielle Laporte

Reads

I’ve been following Danielle LaPorte on the interwebs for a while now (and was insanely disappointed to miss her talk at the World Domination Summit), but I finally splurged and bought The Desire Map in print! I’m sure I’ll discuss the book in more detail soon, especially around goal-setting for 2015–but I just finished the “book” part and am moving into the “journal” part, and I’m hoping to set aside some solid time this weekend to really pour my heart onto paper (ideally with a ricotta toast and latte from Two Hands!).
Killer Heels exhibit at Brooklyn Museum

New York City

I’ve been meaning to visit the Brooklyn Museum basically since I moved to Brooklyn–and I finally did it! I like to save museum visits for bad weather days, and Saturday was overcast and chilly. I was fully tempted by Killer Heels: The Art of the High Heeled Shoe. I always love seeing how fashion and art interplay, and this was a super cool exhibit that tracked the high heeled shoe and what it represents through history and compared the construction with architecture and touched on themes of feminism and beauty. It’s around through February, and worth checking out.

Looks

I popped by the Everlane #BlackFridayFund event in East Village earlier this week. I continue to be so impressed by not only the quality of their clothes, but the innovative way they approach retail. All profits from purchases made on Black Friday will sponsor new recreational facilities and gardens on the campus of one of their factories in Hangzhou, China. At the event, they took polaroids of people wearing Everyone silk shirts–and they’re going to send them to the factory! Such a sweet concept and way to say thank you–and an easy excuse to wear my favorite black shirt.

Words

“The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.” -Henry Ward Beecher (via Clementine Daily)

I’m going to nerd out by going all the way into Midtown to look at books at the Morgan Library on Saturday morning and get all dolled up for a full moon date that night (essentially, my trick to ensure at least one fancy date a month!). And then on Sunday, I’m going to a “very merry anaconda football party” to watch a man get swallowed by a snake and the Patriots game while listening to Mariah Carey and drinking beers. It shall be glorious. What are you up to this weekend?
