Postcard from Lakeville

Postcard from Lakeville

Connecticut is one of those states you don’t hear much about, in the best possible way: they don’t make the headlines because there isn’t much bad news to report. It’s a small state with small towns and a few small cities, a smattering of exclusive boarding schools and excellent universities, and plenty of lakes, trees and open spaces.

The view from Interlaken Inn in Lakeville, Connecticut

Before my boyfriend suggested a weekend at the Interlaken Inn, I had never really considered Connecticut as a “vacation destination” in the Northeast: I imagined ski lodges in Vermont, lobster feeds in Maine, even the Jersey shore. But I quickly fell in love with the quaint towns, the beautiful lakes, the open skies and fresh food. Lakeville is home to (unsurprisingly) several lakes: perfect for swimming, fishing, row boating or just dipping off after a suntanning session. And, I mean, isn’t that what vacation is all about?

Handsome man to row your boat around the lake not included in the Lakeville vacation package, but let me tell you: it certainly makes it more fun! One of my favorite photos from the weekend: doesn’t he represent Connecticut well?!
