Postcard from sunrise at Casa Bonita

Back in 2012, I committed to seeing more sunrises. As I said then: “Waking up early to see the sunrise is kind of like a workout: I never regret one, but there are plenty I regret missing out on.” There’s something special about a sunrise to me: it’s more beautiful than a sunset simply because of the stillness that surrounds it and the possibility that it promises.

On our last morning at Casa Bonita, I set my alarm for 6 a.m. and stumbled out of bed, threw on a robe and grabbed my camera. It was a stunner, and it was worth the early wake-up call: especially since I fell right back asleep after taking a few moments to soak up the soaring colors, the palm tree silhouettes, the brilliant reflection on the water.
