That time I was a New York City street style model
Sometimes living in New York City means you get to do really cool things, just by virtue of living amongst the most famous skyline in the world. Recently, after an Australian friend noticed that I attended New York Fashion Week, she reached out about help to produce a New York street style shoot for her independent Melbourne boutique.
When I lived in Melbourne, JoAnna and I became quick friends as the sole American waitresses at the St Kilda beach bar; JoAnna and her boyfriend Andrew were close friends with Australian couple James and Katy. We all went out more than a few times, and I was always struck by Katy’s daring fashion sense. Katy opened Gusto & Elan, her boutique on Brunswick Street just a few weeks after I left Melbourne. When she got in touch about putting together a shoot, I immediately invited Andrew and JoAnna to visit me in Brooklyn for the weekend (they currently live in Boston) to play model.
It was a super random day, hopping around from the East River waterfront to a friend’s rooftop to the steps of the New York Public Library to the streets outside Grand Central. Despite feeling a little ridiculous at times, it was still such a fun chance to hang out with Andrew and JoAnna, and my friends Aly and Josh. And I must say: SO much more respect for professional models! Here’s a little sneak peek of the images by Terria Clay, keep an eye on the Gusto & Elan Facebook page for the rest.
p.s. aren’t my friends just incredibly good looking!
If you’re in Australia, definitely check out Katy’s gorgeous clothes at Gusto & Elan: she even designs her own pieces at Mina & Katusha!
