Postcard from the Bahamas

January 2, 2013 in Places

I only spent a day in the Bahamas–the curse of the cruise ship vacation–but it was exactly the burst of Caribbean sunshine that I needed after a few chilly months in New York City.

Seriously, the water was THAT clear. And the sky was WAS that blue. The few brief hours we spent dipping our toes in the sea and wandering around the port-area tourist shops of Nassau reminded me why I’m not a fan of cruise ships: I like to be able to lounge in the sand for long after the cruise ships depart. Even so, it wasn’t a bad introduction to the Bahamas.

What’s your favorite photo of the Bahamas?

  • I Love the photo with the cruise ships in the background – I just want to go swimming in that water right now!

  • Oh my word, I love them all!
I JUST read on a friend’s blog that she and her husband are going on a Bahamas cruise soon since her husband found a great deal, $149 each. I am having trouble not throwing a Bahamas cruise on a credit card!!

  • Alicia C

Ooh these pictures are dreamy! I can’t pick a favorite, they are all so wonderful!

  • Yes, I remember clearly the waters of the Bahamas. It’s exactly the way you portray it here!

  • Beautiful photos. I’ve only been to the Bahamas once, for a quick all inclusive trip. That was years ago–I should really go back sometime.

  • Erica

how beautiful!! agh, I share your pain. I went to 19 countries on my last trip, which was a sort-of cruise, but only had 1-3 days in each. ouch!

  • What stunning skies!

  • Shanna Schultz

OMG, my sun starved Minnesota brain thinks that those photos are AMAZING! That is the curse of the cruise ship…your 6-8 hours on shore always feels so RUSHED and I never feel like there is any time to soak up the local culture.

  • camorose

Me too! Such a gorgeous day!

  • camorose

Hey, it could be the perfect “babymoon” πŸ™‚

  • camorose

Thanks! Totally wishing I could teleport back on a chilly day like today πŸ™‚

  • camorose

I think the Bahamas must be pretty idyllic year round πŸ™‚

  • camorose

Believe me, I want to go back too! Seems like it would be such a relaxing place to get some sun.

  • camorose

I don’t think I could do another cruise! Just not my style–I need a few weeks in a country, not a few hours!

  • camorose

    Such a perfect day!

  • camorose

Totally agree. Don’t think I could do another cruise because of that.

  • Erica

Me too, but I mainly on board to gain experience as an interpreter so stopping at the ports of call were a nice bonus πŸ™‚

  • Kristy

The view is breath taking! Bahamas is definitely a paradise for people who loves to go to the beach. Seriously those clear blue water is magnificent. Anyway I will be traveling to USA and I am on my application for my travel visa and I find this good site of Migration Expert http://www.migrationexpert.com/travel_visa/ that will help solve my problem because I don’t have time doing the application myself due to my busy schedule.

  • I like the first pic with the lighthouse best, but they all make me crave beach time! Every January & February I long for sunshine and sand. One of these years I have to plan a winter beach vacation!

  • camorose

The winter is my favorite time to go to somewhere tropical! It’s so nice to escape the gray and come home still glowing with a bit of color πŸ™‚
