Postcard from ACDC Lane

Postcard from ACDC Lane

Wandering in Melbourne may be one of my favorite activities. The city’s neatly ordered grid system makes it nearly impossible to get lost (and fondly reminds me of the A to Z by 1 to 16 grid of my hometown of Sacramento). However, the street art of myriad laneways and alleys spice up the straight and corporate streets. Graffiti street art in ACDC Lane, Melbourne CBD, AustraliaAfter an afternoon at Fitzroy Gardens, I stumbled across ACDC Lane. The urban paper- and grafitti-covered brick was a far cry from the sun-soaked stretches of green just meters away, a clear contrast that reminded me why I love living in Melbourne. Fun fact: ACDC Lane was named in 2004 as a tribute to the Australian rock band because ACDC lived and wrote their first two albums in Melbourne.

  • I love the colors in these, so artistic and creative. Almost reminds me of Buenos Aires. Beautiful!

Thanks so much for directing me to your blog, so much great detailed info I’m soaking up for my trip! Oh I love Melbourne too, was there only a couple months ago 🙂

Awww yay! Like I said, happy to give any more information if you need it! Also–have lunch at Villa Rothschild–it’s absolutely GORGEOUS! And you might want to try a Vespa tour if you’re up for something different–Left Bank Tours was fabulous!

  • I love seeing street art from different parts of the world. I also love AC/DC, so this is great. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  • Maybe I just wasn’t as observant but it seems like it’s much cooler now than it was when I was there 2 years ago! Lorenzo and I searched forever for ACDC Lane because he had read about it and it seemed like it was so quiet and tiny, hidden away on a random alley of Melbourne and when we finally found it there was no excitement, no one around. It was strange!

Glad you enjoyed it! I just love that it’s called ACDC Lane and that it’s become such an awesome place for street art: what a great tribute!

It’s pretty quiet during the day, but there are a few bars and clubs that are supposed to be pretty crazy at night–fun to explore at any time of day, though.

  • Hi Christine, I’m doing a bit of research as I’m visiting Melbourne for the Problogger conference and will be spending 4 nights there as I want to check it out! I’ve heard of ACDC lane but the pics bring it to life:)

Are you going to the blogging conf? I’d love to meet you:)
