Nutella: best served cold

April 9, 2010 in Provisions,Recipes

Nutella becomes an unhealthy obsession for Americans who discover it in Europe while studying abroad or exploring the grocery store. I’m no exception. I was shocked when I stayed with family friends in France and I was allowed to spread Nutella on bread for breakfast–it’s basically like starting your day with dessert! Now I love to dip my apple slices in Nutella, but my “healthy snack” usually ends up with me digging into the Nutella jar and licking the hazelnut delight off my fingertips. It’s not a pretty sight.

If you’re craving a Nutella fix in your life and you’re sick of just spreading it on bread, check out this yummy Nutella cocktail, courtesy of the Cook Almost Anything blog. I made it for friends to celebrate Nutella Day, and we agreed that Nutella is best served blended with liqueur and ice. But let’s be serious…what isn’t better with a bit of alcohol?

What you need:

1 cup ice
½ cup milk
2 tablespoons Nutella
1 shot Frangelico
1 shot Baileys
1 shot vanilla vodka

What to do:

Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend until thick and creamy.

Pour into glasses and enjoy at once!

À la vôtre!

YES! Best cocktail ever! I still have your Frangelico and Vanilla Vodka. The next time I make a nutella cocktail I'll make sure to drink to you, my dear. :)

How did I not know about this? Thanks for sharing. So true about Americans becoming addicted to Nutella when studying abroad. I'm completely guilty of that.

Nutella and banana crepes are my ultimate downfall: I can't say no! And since they have a banana in them, I count them as a serving of fruit :)

Thanks for the recipe. Great! But don't put Nutella in the fridge. It has to have room temperature.

And then there is another European candy you don’t really get that easy in the states: Haribo gummy bears from Germany…
